Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with the Minister in Charge of Climate Change for Singapore, Teo Chee Hean to advance collaborative efforts in the fight against climate change.

The meeting served as the platform to announce a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year, following cabinet approval, marking a significant stride in bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The MOU signifies Singapore’s commitment to providing valuable technical assistance in the development of collaborative emission reduction projects in Fiji.

This collaboration, conducted under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, specifically focuses on carbon credits.

The initiative aims to facilitate the design and implementation of greenhouse gas emissions reduction activities, ensuring the transfer of credits from projects in Fiji to Singapore without compromising environmental integrity.

Rabuka says this collaboration is a testament to the shared responsibility they bear in addressing the global climate crisis.

He says Fiji is honored to partner with Singapore under the Paris Agreement, and this MOU signifies a commitment to innovative solutions for emissions reduction and removal projects.

Minister Teo Chee Hean says Singapore is proud to collaborate with Fiji on this critical initiative as their technical assistance aims to facilitate the transfer of credits, supporting Fiji’s efforts in emissions reduction and reinforcing joint commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement.
