Fiji will soon welcome a royal visit from the Kingdom of Tonga, as His Majesty King Tupou VI and Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u are set to make a historic State Visit from the 8th to the 12th of July, 2025.
The visit comes at the special invitation of the Head of the Mataqali Vuanirewa of Tubou Village, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, to attend the highly anticipated installation ceremony of the Sau Ni Vanua ko Lau, na Tui Lau.
Their Majesties have graciously accepted the invitation and will be present at the official ceremony, scheduled to take place on Thursday, 10th of July, in Tubou Village, Lakeba, Lau.
The upcoming visit underscores the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties between Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga, a bond strengthened over centuries through shared ancestry, traditions, and chiefly links.
Cabinet has officially endorsed the logistics for the royal visit, and an inter-agency task force has been established to ensure the smooth coordination and successful execution of all events related to Their Majesties’ stay in Fiji.
The presence of the Tongan monarchs at the Tui Lau installation is expected to be a moment of profound significance for the people of Lau and Fiji as a whole, marking a powerful gesture of regional unity and respect for traditional leadership.
