Fijian boxer Ubayd Haider has passed away after being hospitalised for the past two weeks.
Haider, formerly known as Nathan Singh, was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery after a TKO defeat to China’s Runqi Zhou.
The Fijian boxer went down in the ninth round during the IBO Asia Pacific Featherweight title contest under South Pacific Boxing Promotions in Nadi.
The bout was one of three international title fights that were part of the programme, in which his elder brother, Sebastian Singh, also competed.
In a tribute, Haider’s brother Sebastian Singh expressed his sorrow in a Facebook post, saying, “R.I.P. See you on the other side, love you my bro. You’ll always be remembered!”
The loss of Ubayd Haider is a heartbreaking tragedy that has deeply affected his family, friends, fans and the boxing community, leaving behind a legacy of courage and determination, whilst his memory as a fighter whose spirit will never be forgotten lives on.
