In a major milestone for Fiji’s education sector, the Fiji Education Act Review Committee and the Fiji Law Reform Commission officially handed over the Report on the Review of the Education Act to the Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga and Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro today.

Minister Radrodro described the handover as a historic moment, noting that the Education Act, first enacted in 1966, has only been amended in isolated parts over nearly six decades.

This marks the first comprehensive review of the legislation.

The review aims to modernize the Act, address pressing educational challenges, and align the law with national development goals and international commitments such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Widespread public consultations played a central role, with strong engagement from students, teachers, and communities.

The review covered critical areas such as curriculum, access to education, teacher welfare, school governance, and infrastructure.

Minister Radrodro acknowledged the dedicated work of all contributors, including legal experts, education officials, and partners like UNICEF and the Global Partnership for Education.

The Coalition Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in building an inclusive and equitable education system.
