Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Sakiasi Ditoka, facilitated the handover of fibreglass boats and engines to three fishermen in Taveuni and their families, marking a significant improvement in their lives under the Seafarers Entrepreneurial Assistance (SEA) scheme in Waiyevo on the morning of January 24, 2024.
The SEA scheme operates on a cost-sharing basis between the applicant and the Government, aiming to support individuals in acquiring boats and engines.
In his address, the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, as well as Natural Disaster Management, emphasised the government’s commitment to community partnership through such initiatives.
Hon. Ditoka highlighted the SEA scheme as a prime example of collaboration, where the community contributes one-third of the cost and the government covers the remaining balance.
He reiterated the ministry’s responsibility for community development, striving to enhance the lives of people in rural and maritime areas and implementing systems that elevate their standard of living.
