The Minister for Education, Heritage, and Arts, Premila Kumar, officiated at the first ever virtual celebration of World Scouts Founder’s Day, yesterday (22/02/2022).
This event was organised by the Fiji Scouts Association (FSA) where boy & girl scouts, scout leaders, Heads of Schools, and teachers participated virtually by joining via Zoom and the live session through the FSA Facebook page.
World Scouts Founder’s Day marks the remembrance of the founder of scouting, Lord Baden Powell, and is celebrated worldwide on 22 February each year.
Whilst addressing the participants, the Minister stated that as our students are now back in school after almost nine months, it is important to re-engage them in such important events, as was done before the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Kumar added that this would surely stimulate excitement amongst the children and help in their development.
Minister Kumar added that not only has the pandemic affected us, but other influences and temptations have become societal problems in recent years. For example, social media, apart from its positive influence, has also become a huge negative influence, as well as a spreader of misinformation.
