Nadoi Village in Rewa has received a 23-foot boat with a 40-horsepower engine through the Sustainable Economic Advancement Programme.
The $21,333.05 project, partly funded by the government and community, will provide safer, more reliable transportation for 61 households.
It will enhance income-generating activities like fishing and farming, create jobs and improve access to markets.
The boat is seen as a vital tool for economic growth and community resilience, helping reduce costs for elderly villagers and children traveling for school.
Rural Development, Maritime and Disaster Management Minister Sakiasi Ditoka commended highlighting the initiative as a significant step in rural development.
“This project is more than just about providing a boat; it’s about empowering communities like Nadoi to access opportunities and improve their livelihoods,” he said.
