In a triumphant display of strength and skill, Nehemiah Elder, at just 14 years old, emerged as the
Best Youth Male Lifter at the Oceania Youth, Junior, and Senior Weightlifting Championships held at
the Dew Drop Events Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.
Elder’s exceptional performance not only secured him the prestigious Best Youth Male Lifter award
but also marked a historic moment as he shattered three records within his category.
The Sinclair formula, which considers an athlete’s body weight and the total lifted weight, further highlighted Elder’s outstanding achievements.
In his last international, the Oceania Weightlifting Youth, Junior and under 23 Championships in
October last year just 4 months ago, Nehemiah lifted 110kg in the snatch, 133kg in the clean and jerk
for a total of 243kg that broke the Youth records at that Championships.
Last week, 4 moths following his sterling performance in Samoa he made an incredible and world class performance by improving his snatch by massive 15kg and his clean and jerk by 4kg making a total improvement by 19kg, this is by all levels incredible to say the least. Also notable is the fact that at the age of 14- and 11-months Nehemiah came 3rd in the snatch and 4th in both the clan & jerk and total just missing out by 6kg in the total for a bronze medal.
In recognition of his remarkable performances, Nehemiah Elder was presented with a plaque
commemorating his exceptional accomplishment. He surpassed all competitors in his category,
underlining his dominance and setting a new standard for excellence in youth weightlifting.
The Weightlifting Fiji team expresses immense pride in Nehemiah Elder’s accomplishments. As the
Best Youth Male Lifter, Elder has not only showcased his exceptional abilities but has set a high
standard for his peers in the weightlifting community.
Weightlifting Fiji views this achievement as just the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable
journey for Nehemiah Elder. At the tender age of 14, his dedication, talent, and record-breaking
feats foreshadow a bright future for this young weightlifting prodigy.
