After more than two decades of anticipation, Ballantine Memorial School (BMS) has officially opened its new double-storey classroom block, marking the fulfillment of a long-standing promise and a major milestone for the all-girls institution.

The new building was commissioned by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, who praised the school community for its patience and perseverance.

The project, left incomplete for over 20 years, was revived through the school’s renewed request to the Ministry of Education and brought to completion at a cost of $660,463.27.

Construction was carried out by Urban Building Solution Pte Ltd and completed within 16 weeks.

The upgraded facility features eight classrooms, two staff rooms, and a modern WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facility, alongside major infrastructure improvements including reinforced beams, new roofing, upgraded electrical and plumbing systems, and safer bridge access ensuring a secure and contemporary learning environment for both students and teachers.

Radrodro said the completion of the building reflects the People’s Coalition Government’s ongoing commitment to improving education infrastructure and creating equitable learning opportunities for all Fijian students.

“This new building stands as a symbol of resilience, partnership, and the Government’s dedication to education as a national priority,” he said, commending teachers and staff for their unwavering service in nurturing young women of faith, discipline, and purpose.

He also encouraged parents and guardians to remain actively involved in their children’s education, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in shaping the next generation.

The celebration coincided with the school’s Family Fun Day, where the Minister joined teachers, students, and parents in contributing to the school’s annual soli fundraiser.

The Ministry of Education also acknowledged the Office of the Prime Minister for its donation of 200 desks and chairs to BMS, further enhancing classroom comfort and accessibility.

Additionally, the WASH Programme and the Ministry of Health contributed three 10,000-litre water tanks, improving the school’s water and sanitation systems.

The day’s events reflected more than just the completion of a long-delayed building they celebrated collaboration between government, school, and community in delivering better learning spaces and brighter futures for Fiji’s children.
