The President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, today hosted a farewell courtesy call from outgoing British High Commissioner Dr. Brian Jones at State House.
President Lalabalavu conveyed Fiji’s gratitude for Dr. Jones’ dedicated service over his nearly four-year term, noting the warm relationship between Fiji and the United Kingdom, underpinned by shared history and enduring diplomatic ties.
In their discussions, the President reflected on the historical significance of the Deed of Cession and reaffirmed the importance of unity and national progress. He wished Dr. Jones success in his future endeavours.
Dr. Jones expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve in Fiji, acknowledging the hospitality of its people and the Government’s support. He also noted Fiji’s ongoing progress in areas such as human rights and freedom of expression.
Dr. Jones reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s continued commitment to strengthening its partnership with Fiji.
