Upon taking office, the Coalition Government has prioritised reinstating the Great Council of Chiefs.

iTaukei Affairs Minister and the Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs, Ifereimi Vasu appointed a review team in March of 2023 for extensive consultations with the Fijian public. Feedback highlighted some concerns, including issues with the iTaukei Land Trust Board’s engagement with landowners.

In response, reforms were implemented, such as the establishment of the iTaukei Wealth Fund and the Land Development Facility, along with strengthened communication and engagement strategies.

Vasu declared their commitment to further improve, with the support of the Great Council of Chiefs and welcomed ongoing community engagement and feedback to strengthen the iTaukei land management system.
