The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has issued a formal clarification regarding its earlier statement on the death of Mr. Jone Vakarisi, acknowledging that initial descriptions of the incident were incomplete.
In the updated statement, the RFMF confirmed that after reviewing the post-mortem findings, its earlier reference to the case as a “medical emergency” does not accurately reflect the medical evidence now available.
The force noted the gravity of the new findings but stated it would refrain from discussing specific details, as the matter is currently under active investigation by the Fiji Police Force.
The RFMF reiterated its full cooperation with police authorities, emphasizing its support for a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation to establish all facts surrounding the incident.
It also underscored its commitment to accountability, stating that any confirmed wrongdoing will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The RFMF extended condolences to Mr. Vakarisi’s family and indicated that further updates will be provided once the investigative process is complete.
