A man has been arrested in Savusavu for the alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs, following heightened operations by a local taskforce formed to tackle rising public concerns.
During the arrest, officers seized small plastic packets and rolls containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana, as well as cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In a continued show of active enforcement, the Savusavu Taskforce also arrested an individual for drinking in public and recovered stolen items during routine patrols.
The special team was recently established in response to community concerns over unruly behaviour, substance abuse, and minor offences in public areas.
The Fiji Police Force expressed gratitude to the public for sharing valuable information and reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and community trust.
“We are committed to addressing issues raised regarding public safety and policing standards,” a police spokesperson stated.
Investigations continue, and police are urging the public to continue reporting suspicious activity.
