“The current Queen Victoria School culture needs to be destroyed”.
Acting Home Affairs Minister and a former student and parent of QVS, Filimoni Vosarogo stressed this after allegations of senior students reportedly forcing juniors to steal food, participate in illegal activities and endure physical abuse, have shocked the school community and raised questions about student safety.
Vosarogo says that if that culture is not intentionally crafted, the default culture will be the lowest common denominator and will be often problematic.
These allegations can tarnished the legacy of an institution known for producing national leaders.
Vosarogo says this issue cannot be swept under the carpet.
Vosarogo stresses that parents play a very vital role in how their children behave.
Vosarogo says there is also a need for the Education Ministry, parents, teachers and other stakeholders to address and reset the school’s culture to prevent its recurrence.
