Residents of Waikerekere are now benefiting from safer and improved access following the completion of a new community footcrossing aimed at easing daily travel for families in the area.
The crossing was officially commissioned by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Mosese Bulitavu, under the Government’s Community Access Roads, Footpaths and Footbridges (CARFF) Programme.
Constructed at a cost of $32,000, the project is expected to assist more than 120 households and around 650 residents, including students, youths, senior citizens, and other regular commuters.
Community members are expected to experience safer movement and improved connectivity, while the new crossing is also anticipated to ease transport difficulties and reduce travel-related expenses.
The development forms part of broader Government initiatives focused on improving infrastructure and accessibility for rural and peri-urban communities across Fiji.
