Fiji has collected approximately $1.8 billion in taxes from August 2024 to January 2025, exceeding projections by $136.4 million, according to Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad.

Speaking at the Gold Card and Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) membership renewal ceremony in Suva last night, Prasad highlighted that the collected revenue represents 55% of the total budgeted tax revenue for the current fiscal year.

“The economic momentum is reflected in our strong tax collections as we have exceeded our projections in the first six months of FY2024-2025,” he stated.

Prasad emphasized the critical role of tax revenue in Fiji’s national development, noting that taxes fund essential public services such as education, healthcare, social welfare, and vital infrastructure like roads, ports, and clean water systems.

“Taxes are at the heart of governance. They support not only national projects but also local government services, including law enforcement, fire departments, and public parks,” he added.

The strong performance in tax collection is seen as an indicator of Fiji’s growing economic stability and resilience.
