The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) officially opened its 1/25 Basic Recruit Course (BRC) this morning, with 151 new recruits set to undergo 12 weeks of intensive training at the Force Training Group (FTG) in Nasinu.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Jeremaia Waqanisau welcomed the recruits during a ceremony held at Duavata Hall, commending their selection and highlighting the role of New Zealand Defence Force instructors in supporting the program.
LTCOL Waqanisau urged the new recruits to approach the training with discipline, humility, and resilience, reminding them that the course is designed to push their limits in order to build the character and capability expected of Fiji’s military personnel.
Drawing from historical accounts of the Fiji Military Forces during World War II, he emphasized the proud legacy of Fijian soldiers known for their strength, skill, and fearlessness in combat.
“Come with an empty glass,” he said. “Be ready to grow, learn, and transform.”
The 12-week course marks the beginning of the recruits’ military journey and is expected to instill foundational combat skills, discipline, and leadership values essential to the force.
