The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is calling for national unity through a new 3-Year Prayer and Fasting Framework, aimed at strengthening spiritual renewal and social responsibility across the country.

At the official pre-launch, held in partnership with the Ministry of Policing and the Ministry of Communications, church and government leaders framed the initiative as a collective response to growing social concerns affecting families and communities.

Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua stressed the need for a united front to safeguard the next generation.

“If we stand together, government, church, Vanua, communities, we create protection around our children, and protection around our future,” he said.

The framework is expected to mobilise congregations nationwide over the next three years, encouraging structured periods of prayer and fasting while also promoting community engagement and moral accountability.

President of the Methodist Church, Semisi Turagavou, said the initiative goes beyond church walls and seeks broader national participation.

“We must come together, and work together and move together as one people,” he said.

“We’ll be inviting the traditional leaders, the NGOs and government to support us. Not only the Methodist Church, but other Christian denominations to come on board and help us to work together. If we stand together as one, on the same platform, we can do it.”

Church leaders say the framework is designed to address pressing social challenges by fostering unity between faith-based organisations, traditional leadership, civil society and government institutions.
