40-year-old Domoniko Tabau has not applied for bail after appearing in the Suva High Court on an attempted murder charge.

Tabau, who is accused of attempting to murder a police officer in Laqere, was further remanded by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere this morning.

Defence lawyer Gavin O’Driscoll told the court his client has chosen not to seek bail at this stage, citing concerns for his safety because the alleged victim is a police officer.

State Counsel Simone Seruvatu requested more time to file information and disclosures, saying several crucial statements are still pending.

The defence did not object to the adjournment and also requested access to the pending statements, as two other men were allegedly in the vehicle during the incident.

Tabau is one of three men alleged to have been in a vehicle that drove into a police roadblock in Laqere.

The injured officer, who is the daughter of Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua, remains admitted in hospital.

The matter has been adjourned to the 22nd of May.
