Pacific Aviation Ministers have renewed their commitment to strengthening air connectivity, safety, and resilience throughout the region during the Fourth Regional Aviation Ministers’ Meeting held in Suva.
The RAMM4 meeting gathered regional leaders, aviation representatives, and international partners to address major challenges facing the aviation industry, including airport infrastructure, affordable air travel, dependable services, and stronger regional collaboration.
Ministers recognised aviation as a critical service for Pacific Island nations, supporting tourism, trade, economic development, and emergency response operations during times of disaster.
Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, stressed the need for ongoing investment in airport and aerodrome improvements to strengthen both domestic and regional links, while acknowledging the infrastructure difficulties still faced by several Pacific countries.
Mr. Gavoka said improving connectivity remains a key regional priority and called on leaders to continue pushing the issue within national planning and development discussions.
Ministers also reaffirmed their support for regional aviation initiatives and partnerships with organisations including the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Pacific Aviation Safety Office to help create a safer and more reliable aviation network across the Pacific.
