Students in Fiji’s maritime region will now have greater access to secondary education following the commissioning of Matuku Secondary School this week.
The new school, located in the Lau Group, is expected to ease the burden on families who previously had to send their children to Viti Levu to continue their education after Year 8.
Speaking at the commissioning, Fiji’s Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, said the establishment of the school will allow students to remain closer to their families while pursuing secondary education.
He also called on the Vanua to support teachers and help create an environment where quality learning can continue to flourish for students in the maritime community.
Minister Radrodro reaffirmed the Government’s ongoing commitment to education through initiatives such as free education, transport assistance, and Back-to-School support programmes aimed at reducing financial pressures on families.
