Fiji and Kuwait are looking to expand cooperation across several key sectors following the presentation of diplomatic credentials by Kuwait’s new ambassador to Fiji.

Sheikh Sabah Naser Al-Malik Al-Sabah formally presented his Letters of Credence to Fiji’s President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, during a ceremony held at State House on Monday.

The ceremony included an inspection of a 30-member Guard of Honour conducted by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, accompanied by Honorary Aide-de-Camp Captain Maikeli Beranage.

Fiji and Kuwait continue to strengthen ties in areas including sustainable development, climate resilience, renewable energy, tourism, education, investment and humanitarian assistance.

Both nations have reaffirmed their commitment to building closer economic and people-to-people connections.

Ambassador Sheikh Al-Sabah brings extensive diplomatic experience, having previously served in senior positions within Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic postings in Sweden, Los Angeles and the United Arab Emirates.

In 2024, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary of Kuwait to New Zealand and also serves as Non-Resident Ambassador to the Cook Islands.

Fiji has expressed its intention to further strengthen relations with Kuwait and pursue new opportunities for cooperation and development.
