The Methodist Church in Fiji is exploring a possible partnership with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces aimed at strengthening youth development and nation-building initiatives.

General Secretary of the Methodist Church, Jolami Lasawa, met with RFMF Commander Ro Jone Kalouniwai to discuss areas of collaboration focused on youth empowerment, character development and leadership training.

During the meeting, Rev. Dr. Lasawa acknowledged the role of the RFMF in maintaining national stability and discipline, while discussions also explored the future signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

The proposed partnership would support youth-focused programmes through shared facilities, training assistance and mentorship opportunities.

The Church highlighted growing concerns surrounding drug abuse, crime, violence, unemployment and other social challenges affecting young people in Fiji, stressing the need for stronger support systems and positive guidance.

Central to the discussions was the proposed “BULI VOU” Ministry, a youth boot camp training programme under the Methodist Church’s Young People’s Department.

The initiative aims to provide spiritual guidance, leadership development, counselling, physical training and life-skills education for youths aged 15 to 35.

Potential areas of cooperation discussed included youth camps, leadership and discipline programmes, rehabilitation initiatives, team-building activities, mentorship and community outreach programmes.

Rev. Dr. Lasawa said the Church believes closer collaboration with national stakeholders such as the RFMF can help build resilient young leaders and contribute to stronger communities across Fiji.
