The Electoral Commission of the Republic of Fiji and the Fijian Elections Office have confirmed that nationwide voter registration efforts will continue despite Cabinet delaying a decision on the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Prime Ministerial announcements this week revealed Cabinet has postponed its decision on the Local Government Elections for another two weeks. The elections were originally scheduled for September 2026.
Electoral authorities said the ongoing YES Outreach voter registration and awareness campaign remains unaffected and will continue until 13 June 2026. Officials are encouraging all eligible Fijians to register or update their details at the nearest Voter Services Centre.
The campaign is aimed at strengthening both the Local Government Register of Voters and the National Register of Voters ahead of the next General Election, which could be called anytime between 7 August 2026 and 6 February 2027.
Since registration for the Local Government Elections began on 13 April 2026, voter services teams have been deployed across all 13 municipalities, providing services to around 16,125 people through visits to villages, settlements, schools, tertiary institutions and workplaces.
The Electoral Commission and the FEO said public participation has been encouraging and reflects growing interest in the democratic process. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring free, fair and credible elections in line with Fiji’s Constitution.
