Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to closer ties with Ireland during a courtesy meeting with Ireland’s newly appointed non-resident Ambassador to Fiji, Fiona Flood.

The meeting followed Ambassador Flood’s formal presentation of credentials to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

Discussions focused on areas of shared interest, including peacekeeping, climate action, sustainable development and cooperation through international platforms, particularly on issues affecting Small Island Developing States.

Prime Minister Rabuka also acknowledged Ireland’s assistance through the European Union and welcomed further collaboration in climate resilience, disaster preparedness, water security and nature-based initiatives.

Both sides highlighted the value of sports diplomacy in strengthening cultural connections and people-to-people engagement between Fiji and Ireland, while reaffirming their commitment to deeper bilateral and regional cooperation.
