A new Joint Maritime Task Force for the Mamanuca and Malolo island groups has been established following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Fiji Police Force and the Mamanuca Marine Protection Initiative.
The agreement was signed in Lautoka on Thursday, 28 May 2026, by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and Mamanuca Marine Protection Initiative Directors Paula Waqanikalou and Kevin Rotsaert.
The collaboration marks a public-private partnership designed to strengthen maritime operations in the region by boosting resources, improving infrastructure, and enhancing response capabilities.
It also aims to address current challenges in maritime policing while supporting more effective monitoring and safety efforts at sea.
Under the agreement, the Mamanuca Marine Protection Initiative will provide maritime assets and resources to support law enforcement activities within the designated area of operation.
Commissioner Tudravu welcomed the partnership, describing it as a valuable contribution to crime prevention and community safety efforts.
“The Fiji Police Force is truly appreciative of this public-private initiative in support of crime prevention initiatives. Public-private partnerships can be viewed as a win-win for the wider community, as collectively, we are able to address shared challenges,” he said.
The Fiji Police Force has also acknowledged and thanked members of the Mamanuca Marine Protection Initiative for their commitment to supporting maritime law enforcement operations.
