The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team campaign at the HSBC SVNS Grand Finale in Bordeaux came to a disappointing end after suffering a quarter-final defeat 14-12 to South Africa.

The Fijians entered the knockout clash hoping to keep their title aspirations alive but were outplayed by a determined Blitzboks outfit that delivered one of its strongest performances of the tournament.

South Africa applied pressure from the outset, capitalising on key opportunities and limiting Fiji’s attacking threats.
Despite flashes of brilliance from the Olympic champions, Fiji struggled to find the consistency and possession needed to break down the South African defence.

The Blitzboks’ victory not only secured their place in the semi-finals but also confirmed them as HSBC SVNS World Champions after results elsewhere went in their favour.

For Fiji, the defeat marked a frustrating end to their pursuit of the overall series crown.

The side had shown glimpses of its trademark attacking flair throughout the season but was unable to overcome a disciplined South African team when it mattered most.
