The Government has expressed confidence in the leadership of the Fiji Police Commissioner and dismissed calls for the appointment of an expatriate to the role.

In a statement, Government said the Fiji Police Force has demonstrated significant capability under the current Commissioner’s leadership, citing major drug seizures and investigations involving high-profile individuals.

Among the achievements highlighted were the seizure of 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine and 2.5 tonnes of cocaine, with suspects brought before the courts.

Government said the Commissioner has also shown that no individual is above the law by overseeing investigations involving people at the highest levels of public office where evidence justified action.

The statement noted that Government remains committed to the modernisation of the Police Force, including the introduction of the Fiji Police Bill 2026.
