The Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry is urging farmers to remain alert as a Heavy Rain Warning continues for the Southern Lau Group, Kadavu and surrounding smaller islands.

While the warning has been lifted for the rest of Fiji, authorities caution that localised heavy rain may still trigger flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Farmers are also being warned of possible flooding at Irish crossings and roads, surface water accumulation in poorly drained locations, reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions.

The Ministry is advising farmers to closely monitor vulnerable paddocks, move livestock away from flooded waterways, ensure farm drainage systems remain clear, and safeguard harvested crops, animal feed and equipment from wet weather.

Extra caution is also being encouraged when transporting produce and livestock.

Farmers are being asked to stay informed through official weather updates and take the necessary measures to protect their families, livestock, crops and property.
