Brazil moved level on points with Morocco at the top of Group C and edged ahead on goal difference after a convincing win over Haiti, a result that ended the Caribbean side’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

Haiti held firm during the opening stages, but Brazil broke the deadlock midway through the first half.

Vinicius Jr tested goalkeeper Johnny Placide with a powerful effort, and Matheus Cunha reacted quickest to the rebound to tap home from close range.

The pair combined again 13 minutes later as Brazil doubled their advantage. After winning possession in midfield, Vinicius Jr slipped a pass through to Cunha, who finished emphatically into the top corner.

Brazil added a third goal in first-half stoppage time. This time Vinicius Jr got on the scoresheet himself, controlling a pass from Lucas Paqueta before calmly finishing past the advancing Placide.

The five-time world champions remained in control after the break and continued to threaten. Gabriel Martinelli struck the crossbar after coming off the bench, while Endrick had a goal ruled out for offside.

Despite their determination, Haiti were unable to find a way past goalkeeper Alisson and finished the match without scoring.

The defeat confirms Haiti’s elimination from the tournament in their first FIFA World Cup appearance since 1974.

Haiti will conclude their campaign against Morocco on June 24, while Brazil face Scotland on the same day in Miami.
