The sentencing hearing for self-employed businessman Imran Khan has been deferred to tomorrow.

The adjournment was granted after Khan changed his legal representation. He is now represented by defence counsel Shayal Kant.

Khan appeared before Resident Magistrate Yogesh Prasad this morning.

The Suva Magistrates Court had earlier found Khan, also known as “King Khan”, guilty of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Magistrate Prasad ruled that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Khan knowingly possessed methamphetamine, which was concealed in his vehicle.

Khan was arrested in February 2023 during a police operation after officers conducting surveillance became suspicious of his vehicle.

The court granted both parties additional time to prepare and file their sentencing submissions.
