Work is moving ahead on the Sawanikula–Matawailevu Access Road Project in the interior of Naitasiri, with the first phase focused on upgrading five kilometres of roadway to strengthen transport links and improve access to essential services for communities in the Muaira and Noimalu districts.
The project is being delivered in three stages. Once the current phase is completed, Phase 2 will involve the construction of an additional eight kilometres of road connecting Matawailevu and Tubarua, while Phase 3 will include the development of at least three river crossings.
Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Mosese Bulitavu, visited the project site to review ongoing works and receive an update on the overall progress of the development.
The Coalition Government has allocated more than $760,000 for the project, which is expected to benefit seven villages, two primary schools and a nursing station by improving transportation and access for residents, students, teachers, healthcare workers and farmers.
During his visit, Minister Bulitavu also toured the Wainimala Government Station construction site, where he was briefed on the project’s progress and key achievements to date.
