Fiji’s maritime security capabilities have been reinforced with the delivery of fast inshore patrol boats from the Government of Japan to the Fiji Navy.

The vessels were officially handed over during a ceremony attended by the Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Pio Tikoduadua, alongside Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji, HE Mr Hiroshi Tajima.

The patrol boats are expected to enhance the Fiji Navy’s capacity to carry out maritime surveillance, patrol operations, search and rescue missions, and provide support for whole-of-government activities across the country’s maritime domain.

The handover further highlights the ongoing partnership between the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Government of Japan under the Official Security Assistance framework, demonstrating their shared commitment to improving Fiji’s maritime security.

The addition of the vessels also represents a significant investment in safeguarding Fiji’s sovereignty and ensuring the safety of those who rely on the nation’s waters.
