Members of the Second Battalion in the Sinai Peninsula welcomed a significant milestone on Thursday, 2 July 2026, as Fiji’s Ambassador to Israel, His Excellency Jesoni Vitusagavulu, made his first official visit to the battalion since assuming his diplomatic post.

The visit coincided with the Multinational Force and Observers’ (MFO) annual Donor Day at North Camp, an event that brings together ambassadors and defence attachés from countries that support the MFO through personnel, equipment or financial contributions.

Ambassador Vitusagavulu was accompanied by Fiji’s Defence Attaché, Colonel Isireli Narawa, providing the delegation with an opportunity to receive operational briefings on the MFO mission and gain firsthand insight into the environment in which members of the Second Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment (2FIR), continue to serve in the Sinai Peninsula.

Following the official Donor Day programme, the Fijian delegation was welcomed at Tavale Square, formerly the parade ground of the Second Battalion during the period when the Fijian contingent was based at North Camp.

His Excellency was accorded a Quarter Guard before taking part in a traditional Fijian welcoming ceremony.

The visit concluded with a brief talanoa session, allowing Ambassador Vitusagavulu to meet and engage with Second Battalion personnel before the delegation departed North Camp for its return flight to Israel.
