Fiji and Kiribati have reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation on infrastructure and sustainable development, with both countries looking to strengthen resilience and improve essential services across the Pacific.
The partnership was reinforced during a meeting between Fiji’s Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, and Kiribati’s Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy, Tekeeua Tarati, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nasilivata House.
The discussions centred on strengthening collaboration in key areas including infrastructure development, renewable energy, water security, maritime transport and broader sustainable development initiatives.
The ministers also exchanged views on Fiji’s progress in expanding renewable energy, adopting electric vehicles, promoting sustainable construction and modernising the maritime sector to reduce carbon emissions.
Minister Tuisawau reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to sharing expertise and practical solutions with Pacific neighbours to help address the common development and climate challenges faced by Small Island Developing States.
Both ministers welcomed continued collaboration aimed at improving climate-resilient infrastructure, strengthening energy and water security, and enhancing maritime connectivity for the benefit of communities in Fiji and Kiribati.
