Defending FIFA World Cup champions Argentina are one win away from retaining their title after coming from behind to defeat England 2-1 in a gripping semi-final.
England broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon, putting the Three Lions within touching distance of a first World Cup final since 1966.
However, the reigning champions responded when Enzo Fernández fired home the equaliser in the 85th minute before substitute Lautaro Martínez headed in the winner in stoppage time from a pinpoint cross by Lionel Messi, completing a remarkable late comeback.
Argentina’s experience and resilience shone through as they overturned the deficit to book a second consecutive FIFA World Cup final, keeping their hopes of back-to-back world titles alive.
They will now face Spain in the final after the European champions defeated France 2-0 in the other semi-final, setting up a blockbuster showdown between two of the tournament’s strongest teams.
The World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain will be played on the 20th of July.
Meanwhile, England will meet France in the third-place playoffs.
