The McDonald’s Fijian Drua Women have created history, booking their place in their first-ever Super Rugby Women’s Pacific Final after a memorable 31-5 semi-final victory over the Queensland Reds in Lautoka yesterday.

Head Coach Mike Legge praised his side’s determination, hard work and belief, saying the achievement was a reward for the commitment the players have shown throughout the season.

Head Coach Mike Legge says the team’s success has been built on creating a positive and enjoyable environment where players can work hard while expressing themselves, adding that the confidence has always been within the squad.

“Yeah, it was good. Sort of no words at the moment. Just really proud. Proud of the girls. They’ve worked really hard to get here. The confidence has always been there. It’s just making sure the environment’s been a good one, it’s been a happy one. As you can tell by the way we play, the girls work really hard. But we make sure that we make it an environment where they want to work.”

He also paid tribute to the Drua faithful, thanking fans for their unwavering support and urging even bigger crowds to get behind the team in the final, saying the players deserve a packed stadium.

“Massive thanks to our Drua supporters. We do have the best supporters in the world and they came out in numbers today. I still, I said during the week, I still want to see a packed-out stadium. I want to see it sold out. I want to see the stadium full. Because these girls deserve it. I’ve said it the last couple of weeks, these girls are playing a brand of rugby that all us Fijians should be proud of. But it’s a proud day today.”

Legge also singled out Captain Kolora Lomani for another outstanding performance after she scored two tries, while stressing that the achievement belongs to the entire squad, who have earned their place in the championship decider.

“Pretty happy with Rossi. Again, she’s led well and the two tries just reflect the way she plays. I’m just really proud, not just of her, but this whole group. They deserve the final and wherever we play it, we hope to get a packed crowd.”

The Drua Women will now turn their attention to the Super Rugby Women’s Pacific Final, where they will look to cap off their historic campaign by claiming their maiden title in front of what they hope will be a full house of passionate supporters.
