Methodist ministers are being urged to start planning for retirement early, with concerns that some finish decades of service without a home or land to return to.
President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma Reverend Dr. Semisi Turagavou highlighted that ministers need to use their active years wisely and prepare for life after ministry.
He added that acquiring land, building a home and making financial plans should be part of that preparation.
“Past experience has shown us that many of our ministers do not retire well, often because they have no house or piece of land of their own to retire to” Rev. Dr. Turagavou highlighted.
The President said ministers should not wait until retirement is near before thinking about their future.
“I therefore urge every minister from the earliest years of their service to plan ahead. Use the years the Lord gives you in active ministry wisely. Begin now. Acquire a piece of land in time” he said.
