Suva Grammar School are the new champions of the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) Super Deans Under-18 competition after defeating Lelean Memorial School 36-21 in a thrilling final at HFC Bank Stadium.
Grammar made an explosive start, with number eight Avanua Tevita crossing for the opening try of the match to give his side a 5-0 lead.
The SGS forward pack laid the platform for dominance as Viliame Daurua scored two first-half tries, both successfully converted, extending Grammar’s advantage to 19-0.
Lelean fought back before halftime through halfback Ratu Apenisa Naivukitu, whose converted try reduced the deficit to 19-7 at the break.
The Nasinu side continued their resurgence in the second spell when flanker Jovilisi Pagapo touched down and the conversion sailed through, cutting Grammar’s lead to just five points at 19-14.
However, SGS responded immediately. Daurua completed a standout performance with his third try of the afternoon, with the successful conversion stretching the lead to 26-14.
Suva Grammar maintained control as flanker Waisale Bolakoro added another try before fly-half Saula Koroi crossed late in the match, with the conversion taking the score to 36-14.
Lelean had the final say, scoring a converted try in the dying moments, but it was not enough to deny Suva Grammar School their long-awaited Super Deans Under-18 title.
Suva Grammar’s victory caps off an impressive campaign and sees them crowned the 2026 Vodafone Super Deans Under-18 champions.
