The National Federation Party has extended its greetings to Fiji’s Muslim community as Muslims mark the Birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, while highlighting the community’s century-long contribution to Fiji.

The occasion also coincides with the centenary celebrations of the Fiji Muslim League, which was established in 1926.

In a statement, National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad said the Fiji Muslim League has played an important role in Fiji’s religious, educational and social development over the past 100 years.

Professor Prasad acknowledged the contribution of Fiji’s Muslim community to the country’s political, economic and social development, noting that it has produced educators, professionals, cane growers, business people, community leaders and national leaders.

He said the values associated with the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad-including peace, compassion, justice, charity, humility, tolerance and service to humanity-remain important in Fiji’s multicultural and multi-religious society.

The NFP has wished Muslims in Fiji and around the world a peaceful and meaningful observance of the Birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and also congratulated the Fiji Muslim League on 100 years of service and wished the organisation success as it begins its second century.
