Bringing the boys and girls from Kadavu to the competition has been an emotional journey for the students of Kadavu Provincial Secondary School.

Vice Principal Maraia Vakamoce says for many of the students, the trip is more than just about competing, it is an opportunity to step outside their villages, experience something new, and gain exposure beyond their islands.

“It’s different because you’re empowering students by bringing them out of the maritime and rural areas to face up with the mainland schools.”

With financial support being their biggest enemy, Vakamoce reveals experience gained from competing off the island makes every trip worthwhile and is never a loss.

“It is never a loss to spend money on a cause as bringing these students from Kadavu to the Capital City.”

For the players, School Head Boy Saiyasi Rokona admits that playing to win will be their mission during the two day competition.

“We’re coming into this competition not only to participate, but to win all our games.”

The competition will continue tomorrow.
