The annual Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) competition is set to make history this year with the introduction of netball, adding a new chapter to the growing rivalry between the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service.

Launched in October 2024 as part of the Fiji Police Force’s 150th anniversary celebrations, the tournament has since become an annual sporting fixture between the two uniformed services.

While the men’s rugby contest will once again decide the winner of the ANC Ratu Cakobau Bowl, the two organisations’ servicewomen will now compete for the inaugural Rusiate Tudravu Netball title.

The ANC Ratu Cakobau Bowl was presented by the Turaga na Vunivalu na Tui Kaba, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. Earlier today, the ANC Organising Committee officially handed over the newly introduced netball shield to Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu.

ANC Committee Chairman and Deputy Director of Strategic Planning, Research and Doctrine, Acting Superintendent of Police Meli Laliqavoka said the inclusion of netball reflects the tournament’s steady growth as it enters its third year.

“We’re excited to introduce a new sport to the competition. The tournament continues to grow each year, and we encourage everyone to come and be part of this historic occasion,” A/SP Laliqavoka said.

The ANC Netball clash will take place this Friday, 23 October, at the Netball Centre from 10am, before the rugby showdown kicks off at Nasova Ground at 3pm.
