Police say the couple, seen in a series of videos widely shared on social media, were taken in for questioning.
Divisional Police Commander West SSP Iakobo Vaisewa says officers intervened and took the couple in for questioning, during which the woman stated that they were arguing over a family matter.
In the videos, bystanders were seen to have intervened while the couple were arguing and thereafter the man ran away with the child.
He adds the woman refused to lodge a complaint or to pursue the matter further.
However, officers from Namaka Police Station have reminded the couple to resolve their issues in an amicable manner for the sake of their child and family.
