The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji) has provided vital assistance to more than 11,000 children in the past year alone, as revealed by its Head of Operations, Nirmala Nambiar.
The figure reflects an increase in demand for support, exceeding the Foundation’s expectations.
Nambiar emphasized that the Foundation will reassess the number of beneficiaries to ensure resources are efficiently allocated.
The rise in beneficiaries underscores the growing challenges faced by many Fijian families in accessing education for their children.
Established in 2009, FENC Fiji has helped over 30,000 children gain access to education.
This effort has been supported by funding from both the Fijian government and private donors, amounting to approximately $300,000 annually.
With this funding, the Foundation aims to continue assisting children from low-income families, ensuring they have the necessary resources to pursue their education.
Nambiar highlighted the importance of the Foundation’s work, stating that the financial support allows many children to stay in school and access vital educational materials, which would otherwise be unaffordable for their families.
FENC Fiji remains committed to ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial hardship, working closely with schools and communities to identify children in need of assistance.
