Filimone Jitoko has been appointed as Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji.
Mr Jitoko brings extensive experience, including a law degree from Victoria University, New Zealand and admission to the New Zealand Bar in 1978.
His diplomatic career includes certifications in Multilateral Negotiations and International Diplomacy, as well as serving as Fiji’s Secretary to the New York and Washington Missions.
Domestically, he was Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Solicitor General, and Secretary to Cabinet.
Mr Jitoko also served as Fiji’s Ambassador to Israel, Brussels and Denmark, and later as a High Court Judge in Fiji.
Internationally, he was Chief Justice of Nauru’s Supreme Court from 2000 to 2017.
His extensive background, has attributed to him being selected to serve as Speaker of Parliament.
