The newly inaugurated Kamikamica Park Multipurpose Court in Raffle Range, Lautoka, is expected to provide a vital space for sports development and community engagement.

With a $171,439.39 investment, the facility aims to promote youth participation in sports and foster future Fijian athletes. The court will accommodate various sports, including volleyball, netball, and basketball, offering young people a dedicated space for training and competition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru highlighted the court’s role in nation-building and youth empowerment.

“This project is more than just a sporting facility; it is an investment in our young people, a symbol of our commitment to community development, and a stepping stone toward greater sporting excellence,” he said.

Saukuru emphasized that sports go beyond competition, fostering discipline, teamwork, and social cohesion. He also noted that the court would serve as a safe space for youth engagement and positive development, helping to address challenges such as unemployment and social pressures.

The Lautoka City Council and Fiji Sports Council will oversee the facility’s management to ensure long-term sustainability and accessibility for the community.

The project aligns with Fiji’s National Sports and Physical Activity Policy, which promotes the development of accessible sporting infrastructure and encourages greater participation in sports.

Encouraging young athletes to utilize the new facility, Saukuru said, “Train hard, play fair, and let this court be a stepping stone to your dreams.”
