Zabeen Khan, a 29-year-old goat farmer from Tavua, has grown her livestock farm since the COVID-19 pandemic through the Agriculture Ministry’s Commercial Agriculture Development Programme.
Her work was acknowledged when the Agriculture and Waterways Assistant Minister, Tomasi Tunabuna, commissioned her new goat shed.
“Your decision to venture into goat farming will surely yield benefits, and I assure you of the government’s support through the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways,” said Assistant Agriculture Minister.
Khan own 34 acres of land and a 99-year lease. She is looking to inspire others, particularly women and youth, to pursue a career in agriculture.
“Perseverance and a passion for farming can lead to personal success and I encourage women and youths in the villages and settlements to engage in agriculture whether it be crops or livestock. You will never regret it because you are addressing food and income security at the same time.”
She adds that she plans to diversify into goat milk and soap production all whilst expanding her operations with a fruit orchard on her 34 acres of lease land.
