Music has taken centre stage in strengthening defence ties between Fiji and the United States, with the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division Band from Hawaii visiting Fiji from 1 to 4 July 2026 for a series of joint performances and community engagements alongside the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Band.

One of the highlights of the visit was a public concert at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva, where the two military bands performed together before an enthusiastic audience, celebrating the longstanding friendship and defence partnership between the two countries.

RFMF Director of Music, Captain Netani Dauvere, said the collaboration has created valuable opportunities for both bands to exchange musical knowledge, techniques and professional experience while further strengthening the close relationship between the two militaries.

He noted that beyond the performances, the visit has allowed musicians from both forces to learn from one another, contributing to the continued development of their professional standards through shared experience and collaboration.

Staff Sergeant Nicole Dally of the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division Band said joint rehearsals at Queen Elizabeth Barracks showcased the strong teamwork and camaraderie between the musicians.

She said the band initially planned to rehearse only a few pieces but ended up preparing seven together, describing the experience as both professionally rewarding and personally memorable.

According to SSgt Dally, the visit gave musicians from both countries the chance to appreciate each other’s musical traditions while forming lasting friendships.

She also expressed the band’s hope of returning to Fiji next year to participate in the RFMF Band’s planned 110th Anniversary celebrations and Military Tattoo.

The visit reinforces the enduring partnership between the RFMF and the U.S. Army, highlighting the role of military music in building professional cooperation, encouraging cultural exchange and strengthening people-to-people connections.
