The Nausori Village Cooperative was formed in October 2023 to combat poverty through agriculture. It consists of 35 members from four yavusas (tribes) : Nawaqa, Nawaqaliva, Sala and Nadinivalu.
After persistent efforts for government support, the cooperative celebrated the arrival of a new Solis tractor which was handed over by Agriculture and Waterways Minister, Vatimi Rayalu, who urged members to utilise it to enhance their livelihoods and support less fortunate community members.
Cooperative member Joji Wara expressed his gratitude for the assistance and stressed the importance of agricultural development.
The cooperative currently supplies cassava, delivering around 70 bags weekly to various markets, while cultivating cassava, watermelon and assorted vegetables across 200 acres.
Mr Wara highlighted their commitment to increasing production to meet market demand and securing more land, highlighting the essential role of farming in fulfilling family and community obligations.
