The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has briefed Fiji’s Police Commissioner on the reasons behind the withdrawal of charges against two men linked to the death of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi.
Director of Public Prosecutions Nancy Tikoisuva informed Rusiate Tudravu that delays in the submission of supporting documents by police affected the prosecution process, leading to the discontinuation of the case on Friday, 22 May 2026.
Commissioner Tudravu accepted full responsibility for the delay, acknowledging shortcomings in the handling of investigation materials submitted to prosecutors.
He said immediate internal measures had been introduced to identify procedural failures, with disciplinary action directed at officers responsible for the delayed submissions.
Police also confirmed that pending investigation reports, expert findings and files relating to the alleged involvement of police officers will be resubmitted to allow the ODPP to conduct a full review before independent legal advice is issued.
The Fiji Police Force stated it respects the judicial process and remains committed to complying with all legal procedures to avoid causing further distress to the families involved.
Commissioner Tudravu assured the family of the late Police Constable Racagi and the public that investigations remain ongoing and those responsible will be brought to justice.
